Weekly Roundup: IPL 2025 Most Likely To Resume By 17th May as Kohli Announces Test Retirement

IPL 2025

The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) faced an unexpected suspension on May 9 due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly following the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor. The situation intensified when a match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was disrupted by a blackout, prompting the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to halt the tournament for a week. This decision was influenced by national security concerns and logistical challenges arising from the conflict.

In response to the suspension, the BCCI is actively working on rescheduling the remaining 16 matches, including four playoff games. The league is expected to resume by May 16 or 17, with the final likely pushed to May 30. To accommodate the condensed schedule, matches may be held in select cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad, with potential doubleheaders to ensure timely completion. However, the availability of overseas players remains uncertain, as many have returned home amid safety concerns.

PSL 2025

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season has been suspended indefinitely due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.  Initially, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) planned to relocate the remaining matches to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to ensure player safety.  However, following incidents such as an Indian drone falling inside Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, the PCB decided to postpone the tournament indefinitely, prioritizing the well-being of players and acknowledging concerns from their families. As of now, there is no official announcement regarding the resumption of the tournament.  The PCB has not provided further details on future plans for the PSL 2025 season.

King Kohli Officially Retires From Test Cricket

Virat Kohli has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket on May 12, 2025, marking the end of a remarkable 14-year career. With 123 Tests, over 9,200 runs, and 30 centuries, he leaves as one of India’s greatest ever in the format. His decision comes shortly after Rohit Sharma’s retirement, signaling a new era for Indian cricket. Kohli expressed deep emotion in his farewell, calling Test cricket the “truest form” of the game. He will continue playing in the IPL and ODIs but had earlier retired from T20Is after the 2024 World Cup win. His legacy as a fierce competitor and inspirational leader remains unmatched.
